The UD51 Second Encoder small encoder option module has inputs that allow a second encoder to be connected to a Unidrive. The module also has simulated encoder outputs. The UD51 works with standard quadrature encoders having up to 16384 lines per revolution, allowing a maximum operating frequency of 210 kHz, or frequency and direction (F/D) signals up to 420 kHz. When used in a drive operating in the Closed Loop Vector or Closed Loop Servo operating mode, the UD51 can do the following: Give speed and position feedback for position control or lock digital Accepts frequency and direction reference input signals The UD51 has simulated encoder outputs that normally use the second encoder as the source, but can be reconfigured to use the main encoder (Encoder 1) connected to the type 15-channel D on the drive as source. These outputs produce quadrature AB signals corresponding to the line count from the source encoder. Additionally, these outputs can be configured for frequency and direction signals. The UD51 should be installed in the small Unidrive option module bay. All connections to the drive are made through a multiway connector. Connections from external equipment are made via a 16-way screw terminal plug-in on the UD51.

1 Before installing the UD51 in the Unidrive, ensure that the power supply has been disconnected from the Drive for at least 10 minutes.

2 Check that the exterior of the UD51 is not damaged and that the multiway connector is free of dirt and debris. Do not install damaged or dirty UD51 in the drive.

3 Remove the terminal cover from the drive (for removal instructions, see Installing the drive and RFI filter in chapter 2 of the Unidrive Installation Guide).

4 Position the multi-way connector on the back of the UD51 over the connector in the drive (see Figure 1), and press down on the touchpad to push the UD51 into place.

5 Refit the terminal cover to the drive.

6 Connect AC power to the drive.

7 Set parameter .00 to 149 to unlock the security.

8 Check that parameter 16.01 is set to 2 to indicate that the module is equipped.

9 If the verification in step 8 fails, do the following:

• Remove AC power from the drive.

• Wait at least 10 minutes.

• Remove the terminal cover.

• Check that the UD51 is fully inserted.

• Replace the terminal cover.

• Reapply AC power.

• Check again that parameter 16.01 is set to 2.
