The company Élan has been taken over by Schmersal Germany since 1997.

Founded in 1952, the Wettenberg plant, formerly Elan Schaltelemente Gmbh & Co. KG, was taken over by Schmersal in 1997. From the 1980s, the first safety devices for the protection of persons were developed.
