Using the LE 20 safety electronics unit and the C 2000, M 2000 devices or 1 to 6 single-beam safety light curtains, a complex safety system can be designed to protect people from hazardous machines and systems. The functions can be varied depending on the complexity of the installation. In its maximum configuration, the system consists of a cascade of three safety light curtains (each with a transmitting and receiving light curtain) – or a cascade of two single light curtains –, an LE 20 safety electronics unit and 4 muting sensors. Such a system can differentiate between objects that are allowed to enter the hazardous area and people. The safety light curtain system stops the hazardous process as soon as a person enters the hazardous area. If, on the other hand, a specific object, such as a pallet, enters the hazardous area, the machine or system continues to operate without being interrupted.

The LE 20 electronic safety units perform a periodic test of the connected barriers and expand the possibilities and safety functions of a simple barrier. The LE 20-Inhibition version is able to distinguish between people and goods passing between the barriers; for this purpose, it uses muting sensors that allow goods to enter the danger zone without stopping the machine.

These devices are in the form of a plastic housing equipped with one (or two) electrical connection terminals depending on whether it is an LE 20 or an LE 20-Inhibition. The second connection terminal of the LE 20-Inhibition allows the connection of up to four muting sensors, 2 muting signal lamps and the configuration of the muting functions.

The LE 20 safety electronics module may only be used with C 2000 safety light curtains, M 2000 multiple light beam safety curtains or testable photoelectric safety barriers. It establishes the interface between the machine control and the barrier(s). In accordance with the requirements of category 2, it periodically tests the safety functions of the connected barrier(s) and stops the dangerous movement in the event of a fault. Such a system also provides additional safety and monitoring functions.
