What Is CANopen?
CANopen is a networking system that falls into the generic category of Fieldbus. Fieldbuses are generally defined as industrial networking systems that are intended to replace traditional wiring systems
SM-CANopen is a fieldbus Solutions Module that can be installed to the expansion slot(s) in any of the following drives to provide CANopen connectivity.
• Unidrive SP
• Mentor MP
• Commander SK
• Digitax ST
• Affinity
In some drives it is possible to use more than one SM-CANopen or a combination of SM-CANopen and other Solutions Modules to add additional functionality such as extended I/O, gateway functionality, or additional PLC features.
SM-CANopen
Control Techniques’ SM-CANopen Option Module interface supports various profiles including several drive profiles.
Features include:
-Up to 127 nodes can be on a network
-Data rates up to 1Mbps, automatically detected by the module
-Up to 4 cyclic data channels, each containing up to 4 words in/out
-Non-cyclic data available: SDO non-cyclic protocol or mapping non-cyclic channel into the cyclic data
-Vendor-independent profile supported: DS-402 profile supported (drives and motion control)
-A Control Techniques-specific drive synchronization mechanism implemented for synchronization of position loops between drives on CANopen network
-Object dictionary extendible with an SM-Applications Option Module
