Modicon X80, a new remote input/output system

The Modicon X80 module platform is common to all Modicon M340, Modicon Quantum Ethernet I/O, Modicon M580 automation platforms, as well as future Modicon Mx80 controllers. Thanks to this common platform, the inventory of spare parts is much lower and maintenance and training costs are significantly reduced. A common configuration tool is used for all PAC modules using EcoStruxure Control Expert (1) with a high level of services, such as forcing simulation and DDT structured device addresses. This platform offers a wide choice of Schneider Electric input/output modules (digital, analog, expert and communication).

Compact

> With the latest I/O technology, the footprint of the Modicon X80 I/O platform is extremely compact.

> The dimensions of the cabinet are reduced, with up to 64 digital inputs/outputs for certain modules.

Robust

> The requirements of the standards are largely met.

> Certified for Class I Division 2 Group ABCD explosive areas and for ATEX/IECEx zone 2/22

Regulatory requirements

Good practice in control system design dictates that process control functions remain operationally separated from safety functions. This generally involves using a controller for the process and a separate system for safety.

SECURITY and PROCESS management within a single application

> Dual processing capability to independently control safety and process functions

> Bringing together independent plant safety and process control to protect the entire operating environment

> Reduction of the impact of typical failures on the safety of installations, people and property.

> No need to design, install or maintain separate security systems

> Tools, wiring methods and input/output structures identical to those of the Modicon M580 controller.

Certifications and standards

Depending on the model, Modicon X80 modules comply with the following standards:

> Merchant marine: IACS E10 and classification bodies: ABS, BV, DNV, GL, LR, RINA, RMRS and CCS

> International certifications: CE, UL, CSA, RCM, EAC

> Energy production market: IEC 61000-6-5, IEC 61850-3.

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC is a French industrial group with international dimension, which manufactures and offers electricity management products, automation and solutions adapted to these trades.

Having consolidated its financial base thanks to the arrival of new shareholders and the simplification of its structures, Schneider began its redeployment at the end of the 1980s. Having joined Merin Gerin in the group (1986), the general management embarked on a acquisition strategy, marked by the integration of important companies that will become the core of the current group:

Télémécanique (1988)

Square D (1991)

Merlin Gerin (1992)

Modicon (1996)
