Digital output modules convert the internal signal level of the programmable controller to the external binary signal level required for the process.

The fail-safe digital output module contains a built-in test circuit. It is a source or receiver output module (to be chosen via an external switch). The module can be used for security related applications. For this, it must be connected to the two submodules.
All other digital output modules are only approved for non-safety related functions.

The modules are mechanically coded and plugged into the bus units. This also establishes contact with the terminal block for the signal cables. The latter does not need to be detached when replacing a module (fixed wiring).

The modules have a fixed slot coding. Address assignments are therefore not necessary and addresses are not shifted if modules are replaced or if the module configuration contains unassigned slots.

The digital output module 6ES5 453-8MA11 is optionally available as a source or receiver output module.
