Overview

Application domain

Digital expansion modules offer the possibility of using additional digital inputs / outputs, in addition to the existing digital inputs / outputs.

The user benefits from this:

- Optimal adaptation:
. thanks to freely combinable input / output modules, the user can adapt his PLC with precision to the task in question. This solution avoids unnecessary investments. There are modules with 8, 16 and 32 input / output channels.
. If the available space is limited or if only a small number of additional inputs / outputs are needed, it is possible to use Signal Boards. Each S7-1200 CPU can be modularly expanded by a Signal Board. The mounting space required for the controller remains unchanged.
- Flexibility:
It is possible to re-equip the PLC during a subsequent extension of the application. Updating the user program is extremely easy.

Constitution

Input / output modules

The input / output modules have the same construction characteristics as the basic modules.

- Standard rail mounting:
The modules are snapped onto the rail to the right of the CPU and electrically and mechanically connected to each other and to the CPU by the integrated slide mechanism.

- Direct mounting:
Horizontal or vertical mounting on a standard rail or direct fixing in the cabinet via integrated holes (no flat mounting).

- For all discrete modules, replacement is facilitated by removable terminal blocks (fixed wiring).

Signal Boards

The Signal Boards are plugged directly into the slot on the front of the S7-1200 CPU.

- Assembly:
The Signal Boards are plugged directly into the SIMATIC S7 1200 CPU, which ensures their electrical and mechanical connection to the CPU.

- The installation dimensions of the CPU remain unchanged.

- For all Signal Boards, replacement is facilitated by removable terminal blocks (fixed wiring).

Note

I / O modules cannot be used with the CPU 1211C.
Signal Boards can be used with all SIMATIC S7 1200 CPUs.
