Technical characteristics

UAC (Universal Alternating Current) drives have the particularity of being able to drive Brushless axis motors or asynchronous spindle motors with the same "Hardware". Only two memories (a REPROM containing the software, a RAM or an E2 PROM containing the parameters) distinguish between an axis drive and a spindle drive.

Material Constitution

The drive is designed for:

- a power module containing:

. the IGBT power stage protected against short-circuits, overvoltages, overcurrents or temperature overruns,

. a control board (Driver) for the power transistors,

. an auxiliary power supply card. The complete replacement of the power module is necessary when one of these elements is defective.

- three removable base cards. The front panel of the drive is removable, after removing the 4 fixing screws. The individual replacement of these cards is possible when they are defective. It is not necessary to carry out a complete exchange of the drive.

- various optional cards: RS232, DAC, Indexing, Relay, Encoder Simulation, Backlash, etc.

ACQ card

On the left of the module is the ACQ card. It contains two microprocessors, the resolver signal acquisition circuits, the REPROM memory where the software is loaded and the RAM memory (or E2 PROM), where the personalization parameter file called the Technical Specification (ST) is stored.

On the RAM∗ parameter are noted:

- the type of motor for which it is configured,

- the ST number (name of the parameter file),

- the maximum current of the module which must be equal to that noted on the adjustment card (CT350) of the IP card.

When exchanging the ACQ card, these two memories must be recovered from the faulty ACQ card and reinstalled on the new card. In the event of a problem with the memories, it is necessary to give the NUM Spare Parts Department the indications noted on the memories (software version on the REPROM, ST on the RAM).

∗ Note: The duration of the lithium battery (internal to the RAM) for the modules in stock is not more than 3 years. This battery is not rechargeable, but is disconnected when the UAC module is powered. When the battery is discharged, an alarm is signaled on the drive (OVS LED flashing). To remedy this problem, NUM recently replaced the RAM memories with E2 PRO
